Book Lover Dear Reader, I’m writing this in September. My kids have been back in school for a couple of weeks, the leaves here in Minnesota are just starting to change, and it’s still warm and sunny. But you’re reading this in January. Days are shorter, it’s winter where you are, and you’re about halfway through the school year, if you work in a school. Times like this, I wish I had a crystal ball so I could say something up-to-date and relevant—but in a world where everything moves at the speed of light, the best I can do is hope that some things haven’t changed. I’m guessing in the four months between me writing this letter and you receiving the Spring 2026 Capstone catalog, you’ll still be looking for good books for the children in your life. Excellent! You’re in the right place. Everything you find in the next 70ish pages is designed for K-5 kids. A few favorites for January you from September me: I hope kids have moved on from “67” by the time you read this, but it’s a safe bet that they still love video games. Check out our new series Next Level Video Game Trivia on page 44. Bet they are still dealing with growing up, too—take a look at Tween Era on page 63 . They’re still learning to read and need decodable content they can practice with. We have more nonfiction Stairway Decodables starting on page 19. And kids still love fun characters, compelling stories, cute stuff, gross stuff, and learning. Imprint: A trade name used by a publisher to release books, often signaling a specific genre, audience, or editorial focus; appears on the book’s copyright page and is tied to the publisher’s formal cataloging. For example, Capstone Press (pg. 40) is the name Capstone uses to publish high-interest nonfiction for grades 3-5. A glossary of terms to keep us all on the same page Brand: A grouping of several series that fit the same reader. A brand can include multiple series. For example, if your kids like the visual, fast- fact format of the Your Favorite Stars series (pg. 41) from Brain Candy, they will probably also love Brain Candy’s Would You Rather? series (pg. 44).
